IFA-BOKU Universitaet Fuer Bodenkultur Wien

The IFA-Tulln is the Department for Agrobiotechnology of the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU) and employs some 150 staff. Its mission is to conduct
interdisciplinary research in the field of agrobiotechnology with particular emphasis on the quality of food and agricultural products. At the Center for Analytical Chemistry (CAC) of the IFA-Tulln
latest state-of-the-art analytical methods have been established for the determination of mycotoxins in cereals and food. The CAC has successfully produced certified reference materials for the
Fusarium mycotoxins DON and zearalenone within the EC funded projects ZONMAIZE and DONCALIBRANT. Together with the Institute of Plant Production Biotechnology of the IFA-Tulln the CAC has been
assigned “Marie Curie Training Site” status in the area of “Prevention and detection of Fusarium mycotoxins in cereals” by the European Commission for the period 2000-2004.
The Institute of Plant Production Biotechnologya long-standing and well recognized experience in research on fungal diseases in wheat, maize and barley. Work concentrates mainly on Fusarium diseases
of these crops. The institute coordinated an EC-funded project with title “Novel tools for developing Fusarium resistant and toxin free wheat for Europe”. PB is equipped for
agrobiotechnological and breeding research with adequate laboratory, greenhouse, growth chambers and field capacities. The group has extensive experience on a range of aspects of Fusarium head blight
in cereals (wheat, barley, and maize) e.g. basic phytopathological techniques, artificial inoculation methods and resistance testing, germplasm testing, germplasm improvement (resistance breeding),
genetic analysis, molecular marker techniques (RFLP- AFLP- and SSR-analyses).
